The Swiss Parliament has resolved that from 1 January 2023 onwards, the costs of COVID-19 tests will no longer be met by the Swiss Confederation and must therefore be paid by the individuals undergoing them.
COVID-19 tests ordered by a medical practitioner will have their costs met by the compulsory health insurance of the individual concerned, provided the test is required to determine any further medical action. Such costs will also, however, be subject to the insurance’s deductible and copayment provisions.

The results of rapid antigen tests are available faster than those of a PCR test because the test procedure is different. Thus, the result is available after 15-30 minutes. However, please note that the accuracy of rapid antigen tests is considerably lower than that of PCR tests.

General information about SARS-CoV-2
-
-
The virus causing the current coronavirus epidemic is called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Patients with COVID-19 mainly have mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath. Some patients progress to bilateral pneumonia, multi-organ failure and, in some cases, death.

SYNLAB offers the qualitative PCR detection test to amplify the viral RNA of CoV-2 SARS. This test is the most reliable test to detect the virus in the acute phase.
The serological test can also be performed by SYNLAB to detect whether the patient has been in contact with the disease or has developed antibodies.
At this time of the year it is difficult to distinguish Covid-19 symptoms from those of influenza, therefore, in the case of respiratory symptoms with a negative SARS-CoV-2 result, SYNLAB offers an additional test, upon request, for the PCR detection of influenza A/B and RSV. On request, it is also possible to test a complete respiratory panel, which identifies numerous acute respiratory agents (multiplex PCR Respiratory Panel), from the same nasopharyngeal swab.
For more information on the tests and their specificities, we recommend that you consult our various SYNFOs (available in de, fr and it).
